A diesel engine is bigger and harder to crank than a gas engine, so a dead battery on a diesel truck or SUV needs a jump starter with real power. NOCO rates each Boost model for the largest gas engine and the largest diesel engine it can start, and that diesel number is the one to check first.
The NOCO Boost X GBX155 is our top pick for a large diesel. It is rated for engines up to 8.0L and recharges over USB-C in about 2.7 hours. It suits pickups and larger SUVs. The GB150 handles a 6.7L diesel for less money, and the GBX75, GB70 and GBX55 cover smaller engines. Here is what's available right now.

One catchIt is the priciest of the diesel-rated models in this guide, so it only makes sense if you need the extra headroom.
If your truck runs a large diesel, this is the model with the most diesel headroom in the Boost X line. NOCO rates it for diesel engines up to 8.0L and gas engines up to 10.0L, which leaves a margin above a 6.6 or 6.7L engine rather than sitting right on its limit.
The 60-second timer and 2.7-hour USB-C recharge keep it practical for regular use. Spark-proof and reverse polarity protection are built in, so a wrong clamp connection is less of a risk.

Rated for diesel engines up to 7.0L, with up to 80 starts per charge and an IP65-rated housing.
Prices and availability on Amazon change often.
For a 6.6 or 6.7L diesel, this is the most direct fit below the top pick. NOCO rates it for diesel engines up to 7.0L, just above a 6.7L engine, and it offers up to 80 starts per charge, the highest count in this group.
The IP65 housing and rubberized over-molding make it a sturdier choice for a truck bed or work van. Expect a seven-hour recharge, which is slower than the USB-C models.

Rated for diesel engines up to 6.5L, with a 1.8-hour recharge over 60W USB-C.
Prices and availability on Amazon change often.
NOCO rates the GBX75 for diesel engines up to 6.5L and gas engines up to 8.5L. On diesel rating it sits between the GB70 and the GB150, so it suits mid-size diesels that don't need the top rating.
Its 60W USB-C charging recharges in 1.8 hours, and the same port can charge phones and laptops. The listing notes that low-wattage phone chargers take much longer.

Rated for diesel engines up to 6.0L at 5.0 lb, the lightest 2000A model here.
Prices and availability on Amazon change often.
If your engine is a 6.0L diesel or smaller, the GB70 is the lightest 2000A model in this list at 5.0 lb, so it fits in a glove box more easily than the larger units. It will not cover a 6.6 or 6.7L engine on NOCO's rating.

Rated for diesel engines up to 5.0L, with a 1.2-hour USB-C recharge.
Prices and availability on Amazon change often.
For a smaller diesel up to 5.0L, the GBX55 recharges in 1.2 hours over USB-C, the quickest of any model here. Its nine starts per charge are fewer than the larger units, so it suits drivers who can recharge after use rather than rely on many starts in a row.
Start with your engine's displacement, which is printed on the engine or in the owner's manual. Then compare it with the diesel rating on each model, not the gas rating. A rating of 'up to 7.0L' means the unit is rated for engines at or below that size.
Recharge time decides how soon you can use the unit again. The USB-C models (GBX155, GBX75, GBX55 and GBX45) recharge fastest. The GB150 and GB70 take longer.
Starts per charge matters if you may need to start the engine several times in one trip. The GB150 is rated for up to 80 starts, and the GBX55 and GBX45 are rated for far fewer.
Weight matters if you keep the unit in a car. The GB40 and GB50 are the lightest picks, while the GB250 is the heaviest at 15 lb.
If your engine is a 6.6 or 6.7L diesel, skip the GB40, GB50 and GBX45. Their diesel ratings sit well below that size, and NOCO does not rate them for it.
If you have a gas engine as well as a diesel, check the gas rating too. Most models here are rated for larger gas engines than diesel ones, so a model that covers your diesel will also cover your gas engine.
Match the diesel rating to your engine's displacement, with some margin. For a diesel truck with a 6.6 or 6.7L engine, the GBX155 (up to 8.0L) and the GB150 (up to 7.0L) are rated above those sizes. Smaller diesels can use the GBX75, GB70 or GBX55.
On NOCO's own ratings, the GB150 covers diesel engines up to 7.0L and the GBX155 covers up to 8.0L, so both sit above a 6.7L engine. The GB250 is rated up to 16L if you want the most headroom. Confirm your engine's displacement before you buy.
Not on NOCO's rating. The GB40 is rated for diesel engines up to 3.0L, which is below most diesel trucks. Choose a model rated for your engine size instead.
Pick by engine size, not by peak amps alone. For a smaller diesel up to 5.0L, the GBX55 has the quickest recharge among the picks. For a 6.0 to 6.5L diesel, the GB70 or GBX75 are the closer fits.
NOCO describes the Boost line as safe, efficient and reliable, and each model lists spark-proof and reverse polarity protection. Check the engine rating for the exact model you want, and read the buyer reviews on its Amazon page before you buy.
